Lake County's 210,528* residents live in a number of small and friendly cities, towns and communities. The rolling terrain and scenic beauty make us unique in Central Florida. We get our name as a result of over 1400 shimmering lakes. Lake County is centrally situated approximately 60 miles from both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. It is approximately 35 miles northwest of Orlando and Central Florida's major attractions. The county's unique shape includes part of the Ocala National Forest near Astor as well as the acreage known as the Green Swamp in south Lake County. Some of the major highways which pass through Lake County are U.S. Highway 441, U.S. Highway 27, State Roads 50, 19 and 33, and the Sunshine State Parkway/Florida Turnpike. And, we're only minutes going east to I-4, and going west to I-75. First settled in 1840, Lake County covers 1,163 square miles and includes a waterways system that leads to the Atlantic Ocean.
